Los Roques
Archipelago Los Roques is located about 80 miles offshore the coast of Venezuela. This unique National Park of Venezuela consists of many uninhabited islands and mangrove cays.Los Roques can be reached with Aerotuy from Caracas or Isla Margarita.At Los Roques are many, many flats. Flats of coral, turtle grass but also of pure white sand.It’s a true wading bonefishing paradise!
Bonefish
Los Roques ‘s prime months are between March – October. Many Bonefish are over 5 pounds and very good numbers of fish in the 10 pound range are present. The record of the VistalMar Lodge record is a Bonefish over 13 pound. Beach Bonefishing is an extra bonus at Los Roques. At many islands it possible to catch Bonefish just from the beach. On many occasions Bonefish is chasing baitfish a few yards from the beach. Clouser Minnows are the best choice. The Bonefish at Los Roques are not as spooky as sometimes in Belize or Bahamas. Bonefishing at Los Roques is by wading so accurate presentations are required.
Other Species
Tarpon are often seen rolling in the channels and sometimes in the deeper flats. At Los Roques are a few lagoons where the Tarpon can be caught between 10 – 40 pounds. Other species available are Permit (rarely caught), Barracuda, Snook, Spanish Mackerel, Sappers and Jacks.
All fly fishermen are transported to the flats in 28ft fiberglass boats, powered by 75 hp Yamaha outboards. Besides the guide, a boatman accompanies each boat. The boatman creates maximum fishing time. After a walk over the flats he always puts the boat at the opposite end of the flat, to pick you up.
The outfitter and guide service is Sight Cast. Sight Cast is based at the Los Roques’s most beautiful accommodation named Macanao Lodge. Anglers are accommodated in double occupancy rooms. The owner of the Sight Cast is Chris Yrazabal who has guided in Los Roques for the past 10 years.

The boatman creates maximum fishing time, he always puts the boat at the opposite end of the flat, to pick you up after a walk over the flats and bring you to the next fishing spot.
Los Roques and Venezuela offers the non-fishermen some great activities. At Los Roques you can visit the islands and do some snorkeling, swimming and sun-bathing. Or take an excursion with LTA and search in the rainforest for Angel Falls, the highest waterfall in the world. All these activities can be combined in one package.
